When a young person is truly converted, the heart begins to change—desires shift, priorities realign, and obedience becomes an act of love rather than obligation. This section will help you understand that building biblical character does not begin with trying harder—it begins with giving their lives fully to Christ. From that foundation, everything else grows.

Introduction

Unquestionably, the youth of today face many moral choices. Alcohol, drugs, sex, crime, and the pressure of social acceptance by others are just some of the moral issues young people face. As a young person standing on the threshold of adulthood, the decisions you make will shape your life now as well as eternally.

The judgment you use and the choices you make as a teenager will likely stay with you for the rest of your life. Living in a way that pleases God is of first importance, because it will help you see more clearly the other choices you will need to make to follow Him (Luke 9:23).

“How important is getting an education? What kind of person should I date? What kind of person do I intend to marry? Do I want to get married? Will I try drugs? Will I engage in premarital sex? Will I attend the junior high or high school dance? Will I join my friends when they want to go to the drinking party? What kind of clothes will I wear?”

Get the picture? The decisions you are making now have far-reaching consequences. The choices you make reflect your outlook on life, your faith, your morality, and the values you hold.

All of these decisions (and more) will be based on whether you decide to be a disciple of Jesus and build the kind of character He wants you to have (Luke 6:40). The first decision you must make is to be a Christian and to live a moral, godly life (Joshua 24:15; Matthew 6:33).
