In this section, you will learn that conversion begins with hearing and understanding the Word of God, developing faith, and responding with repentance. It involves confessing Jesus as Lord and committing to follow Him daily. True conversion produces a new identity—no longer living according to the world’s standards, but according to God’s will. We will emphasize that conversion is both a moment and a lifelong journey. It starts with a decisive commitment, but it continues through daily surrender, growth, and spiritual discipline. When a young person is truly converted, the heart begins to change—desires shift, priorities realign, and obedience becomes an act of love rather than obligation. This section will help you understand that building biblical character does not begin with trying harder—it begins with giving their lives fully to Christ. From that foundation, everything else grows.

The Challenges of Youth

Some will try to convince you that it is neither possible nor necessary for young people to build Bible character and live godly lives. Friends may say, “You are only young once! Do what you want while you can! Don’t be a spoil-sport—have some fun!” Those who do not care about the will of God will try to persuade you to live only for the moment, without concern for moral and spiritual matters. They may suggest that you can think about God later, after you have finished “living it up,” and may even claim that you cannot enjoy life and be a Christian at the same time.

What they do not tell you is this: “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life” (Galatians 6:7–8). They do not tell you that life is uncertain and can be taken away in an instant (James 4:13–15; Hebrews 9:27), nor do they remind you of the judgment day when each person will stand before God (2 Corinthians 5:10).

Being young presents special challenges. God’s Word warns of “youthful lusts” (2 Timothy 2:22), yet also reminds us that He provides a way of escape so temptation can be resisted (1 Corinthians 10:13). Some may look down on you because of your age (1 Timothy 4:12), and youth often comes with limited life experience (Job 32:2–7; 1 Kings 3:7–12). However, God’s Word lights the path toward wisdom and understanding (Psalm 119:9, 105; Proverbs 6:23). It also gives strength: “I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the wicked one” (1 John 2:14).
